Lauren Angelico has worked as a certified teacher for four years and has tutored for five years in a variety of different settings. She attended York High School in Elmhurst and graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University, cum laude, with a Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education as well as a minor in Hispanic Studies. She currently teaches sixth-grade in a self-contained classroom. Lauren is also the data team facilitator for her grade level and is a mentor at her school. Her students continuously excel in her classroom and on standardized tests.

SUBJECT INFORMATION:

• READING:

  Lauren is an avid reader herself and is able to convey her enthusiasm to her students. Utilizing the reading comprehension skills and strategies, she is able to help students of all ages to improve their reading. She also applies techniques from Best Practices, QAR, and extended response to get students ready for standardized testing.

• ENGLISH/GRAMMAR:

  Lauren has vastly improved her students' writing skills for narrative and persuasive essays. In doing so, she uses different teaching techniques for five-paragraph essay organization and has also helped students to master sentence structure and proper grammar.

• SOCIAL SCIENCES:

  Lauren is endorsed to teach Social Sciences K-9. Her previous courses include European Politics, Fundamental Astronomy, Psychology, Sociology, United States History, and Cultural Traditions of the Ancient World. She has co-developed the curriculum for her grade level and is very experienced in teaching/tutoring this content area.

• MATH:

  Lauren has worked as a pre-algebra and algebra tutor as well as basic elementary math with an emphasis on division, multiplication, fractions, decimals, geometry and algebra. She is especially familiar with the Glencoe Math Series for middle school students.

• SPANISH:

  Lauren has a minor in Hispanic Studies and is able to work with students who need help with reading, writing and speaking the language. She studied abroad in Madrid, Spain for a semester, and while there, she tutored three Spanish speaking students in English. She has worked with students K-12 on enhancing their Spanish skills.
